Members of Candlewood Lake Council No. 11913 presented donation checks to Helen C. Burland, Executive Director of the Saint Catherine Center for Special Needs in Fairfield, CT. The money was raised via a weekend-long Tootsie Roll Drive held outside of Stop & Shop on Newtown Road in Danbury in October of 2016. Supporting charities that help those with special needs has long been a passion of the Knights of Columbus, and our Council feels that it is a blessing to be able to help support those charities in any way that we can.
The Council received the following letter from the Saint Catherine Center on May 30, 2017…
Dear Members of Council 11913,
On behalf of the community at Saint Catherine Center for Special Needs, thank you for your gift of $1,119.20 on March 16, 2017 to the Saint Catherine Center Fund. Your support enables us to deliver on our mission.
Each year, friends support the Saint Catherine Center Fund so that we may meet the calling of our ministry to serve people with disabilities. We continue to offer an alternative educational program to children with special needs through Saint Catherine Academy. In addition, we are providing support through parishes for individuals and families to facilitate meaningful participation in all aspects of the Church. We are strengthening our support for students with disabilities who are in our Catholic Schools and we offer an adult day program for people with disabilities that is approved by the Department of Developmental Services.
Our commitment to this mission is made possible everyday because of the generosity of people like you. Your appreciation of our ministry is a blessing to all of us who are engaged with Saint Catherine Center for Special Needs. It is through this ministry that we recognize that human value comes from who we are rather than what we have or what we do. We are witnesses to the healing power of love.
Helen C. Burland – Executive Director
