Inaugural “Coats for Kids” program a huge success!

Coats for Kids - October 2017
Allison Carballo, Development Director at Family & Children’s Aid in Danbury, CT – accepts a donation of 96 brand new coats for children in need.

On Saturday, October 21, 2017 members of Candlewood Lake Council No. 11913 met with Allison Carballo – Development Director at Family & Children’s Aid in Danbury, CT – to deliver eight boxes of brand-new warm winter coats for children in need, as part of the Council’s inaugural “Coats for Kids” program.

The Council held a fundraising drive at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic Church in Brookfield, CT following all Masses on the weekend of September 30th and October 1st. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners of both St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brookfield, the Council was able to purchase eight boxes of brand-new warm winter coats – 96 coats in total, far exceeding our original goal of 50!

Through Family & Children’s Aid, these coats will be distributed to children in need throughout the Greater-Danbury area of northern Fairfield County. Many of these children live in low-income situations, some are in families that are currently homeless, and some are in foster-care or shelter residences. For some, this will be the first new coat they have ever owned.

Candlewood Lake Council would like to thank all of those who contributed to make this program a huge success in this, the first year of our participation in the Knights of Columbus’ “Coats for Kids” campaign. We’d also like to thank Allison Carballo and all of the wonderful folks at Family & Children’s Aid for working with us, and for all of the hard work you do help those in need within our community. We very much look forward to working with you even more in the future!
